India has become the 2nd largest mobile wireless network in the world. India has overtaken US and stands after China in the global market. The scenario was quite different before. Around ten years back India was not even one tenth of the world’s market leader of that time. For years US has ruled the market as a leader. It was just three years back that China has overtaken the USA and proved itself as the world’s largest leader in the mobile network market. Few months back India reached a level where it became the world’s second largest mobile market. The rate of such growth is also remarkable at a percentage of 30 yearly. The rate of growth at present is far higher than that of China.
During the month of February around a sum total of 8.49 million telecom connections were added. This is in comparison to January 2008 when the amount was calculated as 8.74 millions. GSM, WLL and CDMA are the main subscribers. At the end of March 2008 the total subscribers for the wireless network measured to 261.09 million. Market analysis showed an addition of total 10.16 million subscribers to the wireless medium during March, whereas, the data showed 853 million during February 2008.
The total amount of connectivity showed 300.51 million and the total density amounts to 26.2 percent. By the completion of the year 2010 the government has targeted to achieve a numerical of 500 million users in the telecommunications market.
The US market shows 256 million users at the current situations and each month the market research shows an addition of two to three million users. China on the other hand shows six to seven million subscribers in each month of the year. India is hence on the stronger side of the market showing a summation of eight to nine million new subscribers each month.
The IT and Communication minister, Mr. A. Raja is of the opinion that during recent years one of the most remarkable growths in the mobile network is faced by India. The opportunities and market in India is vast and varied. The year 1995 saw the first introduction of mobile services in India. He says India has topped the charts globally in regards to the addition of mobile service subscribers. Mr. A. Raja also states that although India has become the second largest in the mobile market in the world yet, nearly 70 % of the citizens in India are left to experience the advantages of such a success.
